Deconstruction of construction - David Hanvald in Berlin Model

Painting engineer, those words could possibly characterize David Hanvald. In the case that the word engineer would not include a little strange connotation in itself. Nevertheless, for Berlin Model two “taxidermied“ formal solutions were considered. The first variant was to either give to David papers with a various grouping of strokes and place it a lot on the walls, wherever possible. The second variant with the use of frames was offered, this variant eventually won.

It was about how David paraphrases and reinterprets the modernist work of arts, in the same way he also looked at Sigmar Polke – the excellent German painter, who experimented in a specific way (with the content and formally) with the medium of painting. In this case, he was interested in the constructions of the blindframes, that shine-through under the Polke´s pictures made on the plastic films. David was inspired and complied large frame Polke´s constructions, where the single frames are coated with a canvas with an accent of colorful gestural Strokes. He exposed those assembled structures.

In The Berlin Model me and David, we worked together with individual, taken apart frames, that were deconstructively used for the whole installation. It had three "layers". Frames cluster was placed in shop window, transparent from the street, from the entrance and also from the inside of the Kvelb. Some frames were aligned and balanced, leaning in the corner of the room. With other frames was done minimalistic, visual installation on the wall. In short, such a escalated engineer-creative deconstructionist-constructive game.
